The problem with a slicker brush is not the brushing, it is what comes after: a pad of hair wedged between a hundred bent pins that you then pick out with your fingers. On this one the head has a button. Press it and the pins sink back into the head, the pad of hair lifts off in one piece, and you are ready for the next stroke.

What it is, and what it is not
Bent pins reach through the top coat and pull out the loose undercoat, which is what a slicker is for: shedding season, fine knots, the fluff behind the ears. It is not a dematting tool. On a mat that is already felted it will pull, and the pins are fine enough to scratch skin if you lean on them, so let the weight of the brush do the work. We do not have the head measurement in writing; the box it ships in is 18 by 23 cm.
