A knife stops cutting long before it looks blunt. This puts the edge back in about a minute, without the guesswork of a whetstone.
You rest the wooden-toned base on top of the blade — its magnets grip the steel and hold it at a fixed angle, with only the cutting edge showing from underneath. Then you roll the cylinder back and forth along that exposed edge. The magnets hold the blade at a fixed angle, so you are not trying to keep a steady hand yourself — which is the part most people get wrong. The base has a 15° side, which suits thinner Japanese-style blades, and a 20° side for the heavier Western knives that need to hold their edge longer.
The coarse side (400 grit, 46 micron) resets an edge that has gone properly dull or picked up small chips. The fine side (1000 grit) polishes it smooth again. Most knives in a home kitchen only ever need the fine side.
The rolling sharpener and the magnetic angle base. That is all — there is no leather strop and no honing rod. Both parts have a wood-toned body; the roller has metal rims and carries the two abrasive faces, one at each flat end. The whole thing weighs about 380 g.
It is made for straight-edged kitchen knives. It will not sharpen serrated blades, scissors or ceramic knives.
