A resin skull with cracks lit from inside, so the light comes out of the fissures and the eye sockets rather than from a bulb you can see. It is a decoration, and it is the one thing in this shop that is only useful for six weeks a year.

Two versions, and what we can and cannot tell you
The supplier sells the same casting in two colourways, Type A and Type B. Which letter is the bolder orange one and which is the redder, finer one is not written anywhere we can check, and we have not had both in our hands — so we are not going to guess for you. The photos show the range. If the difference matters to you, write to us before you order.

What it is made of
Resin, not stone. The supplier calls it “lava stone” because of the finish; it is a moulded resin casting of about 500 g, and we would rather be accurate than atmospheric.
Power
It runs from a USB cable, which is what the photos show and what comes in the box. There is no mains plug, so it works the same on either side of the Atlantic — any phone charger or laptop port will do. We have not opened one to see whether there is a cell inside, so we will not tell you it is cordless.
What it will not do
It lights a shelf, a mantel or a table — not a room. It is not weatherproof, so it stays indoors or under cover on a porch. And it is a solid resin casting: it will chip if it goes off a table.
