Why three levels and not one row
Eleven hooks sit at three different heights. Long coats hang from the top and stay clear of the floor. The middle row takes jackets and bags. The bottom row is low enough that a child can hang up their own coat, which is the only way it ever actually happens.

And like every freestanding rack, it wants the weight spread around the pole: load one side only and it will lean. If your entryway takes a family of heavy winter coats every day, a wall-mounted rail is the more honest answer and we would rather say so.
